NZCA Canterbury's first STAR (Social Technology Awareness Resource) session on Sunday afternoon 11 June at Upper Riccarton Library was very well attended, reaching full capacity of 40 people for our booked room. The importance of registering before the session was to ensure we knew the number of students, their individual needs and, most importantly, having tutors to assist. Our first topic of our Techno for Seniors series was on cell phone use. Kim Gin gave an impressive bi-lingual PowerPoint presentation on general use and benefits of smartphones. We were also very fortunate to have the generous support of Evie Yao from Spark who came with demonstration phones and assisted with any queries during our practical session when participants were divided into smaller groups. We achieved a student to tutor ratio 3 to 1, something to be extremely proud about ! THANKS to all our volunteer tutors and support crew who assembled the welcome packs and provided the afternoon tea. Great to have such positive feedback from attendees who are eagerly awaiting the next session, date yet to be confirmed.
